Our support methods

Main Computers has 3 levels of support that we offer to you a valued customer.

  • Telephonic Support, this is our primary level of assisting you. If we can’t resolve the problem then we will move onto the second level of support.
  • Remote Support is a method for troubleshooting software related problems via a secure remote access session. If we are unable to assist you remotely or the problem doesn’t allow us to connect to your network or machine then we will move onto the third level of support.
  • Onsite Support, we will come through to your offices and resolve the problem or to your home if you require us to sort out your home networks.

Servers

In IT the definition of a server is a computer program or a device that provides functionality and security for other programs or devices, called “clients”.

This type of environment is called “the client–server model”. Servers can provide various functionalities, which are called “services”, these Services such as data sharing and or resource sharing among multiple clients.


A server can serve multiple clients, and a client can use multiple servers depending on the server functionality. Typical servers are database servers, file servers, mail servers, print servers, web servers and application servers.

Desktop

A significant segment of the desktop market are computers expected to perform as workstations, but using PC operating systems and components.

Cloud Computing

What is the cloud? Where is the cloud? Are we in the cloud now? These are all questions you’ve probably heard or even asked yourself. The term “cloud computing” is everywhere.

The simplest term, cloud computing means storing and accessing of data and programs over the Internet instead of them running from your computer’s hard drive. The cloud is just a metaphor for the Internet. It goes back to the days of flowcharts and presentations that would represent the gigantic server-farm environments of the Internet as nothing but a puffy white cloud, accepting connections and doling out the information as it floats.

Cloud computing is not about your hard drive. When you store data on or run programs from the hard drive, this is referred to as local storage and computing. Everything you need is physically close to you, which means accessing your data is fast and easy, for that one computer, or others on the local network. Working off your hard drive is how the computer industry functioned for decades; some would argue it’s still superior to cloud computing, for reasons I’ll explain shortly.

The cloud is also not about having a dedicated network attached storage (NAS) hardware or server in residence. Storing data on a home or office network does not count as utilizing the cloud. (However, some NAS will let you remotely access things over the Internet. For it to be considered “cloud computing” you need to access your data or your programs over the Internet, or at the very least, have that data synced with other information over the Web. In a big business, you may know all there is to know about what’s on the other side of the connection; as an individual user, you may never have any idea what kind of massive data processing is happening on the other end. 

The end result is the same: with an online connection, cloud computing can be done anywhere, anytime. Cloud providers typically use a “pay-as-you-go” model, which can lead to unexpected operating expenses if administrators are not familiarized the with cloud-pricing models on offer to them and the functionality of the pricing models.’
